our new planned electronic news letter
The trade union met with the MD on Friday to request the staff who are on new starter contracts are given the 70 minute unpaid meal break that older contract staff have.
The company are obviously reluctant to do this, but they are looking at the idea of moving back to comprehensive rotas to offset the cost.
The thought is that comprehensive rotas enable duties to be scheduled with better meal breaks and hopefully make better duties with less time at work.
On comprehensive rotas all staff would get the chance to drive all routes.
Volunteer rotas such as split would remain in place.
The company say they will need three weeks to draw up some rotas to look at and decide if they will give us the 70 min break for all.
During this time we will run a ballot to ask the branch if they wish us to do an ERS ballot for industrial action if the company refuse our request.
If the company offer to go to comprehensive rotas we will hold a workplace ballot to let the branch decide.
We are also considering holding a special branch meeting at each depot in the canteen to discuss this.
